Default Parking Brake Release

I am trying to swap out the lower dask piece on my blazer. The plastic trim right below the steering wheel. I cannot figure out how to remove the brake release handle. Without removing this handle the plastic piece is captured. I have found many posts on the 2nd gens, but none on the 1st.

Thanks

I hope you get a answear to your question. In my 1987 im going to have to paint that panel if I cant get it off.Im thinking that you have to pull the handle and cable out of the sheath .How far ,I have no idea.I wouldnt think you would have to pull it all the way from the front of the hood.I saw on the 2nd generation posts that they had a connection a foot or so back under the dash.Ill check that out tomorrow and if I find a way to get it loose Ill let you know.If you find the answear, please post it .

Piece of cake guys. Release the brake all the way. The handle has a little spring on it and you can actually pull the part it's attached to back a little farther. It sits in a little slot on the brake mechanism. Sonetimes the cable likes to be stubborn but don't screw up the little ball on the end of the handle. Done it several times and was successful every time.

Did you get it out? The mechanism is just behind the dash. One of those BFO (by feel only) jobs.

drummerdude I haven't forgot about your other stuff on the RKE I told you I'd send you. Really just got back with the program. Hope what I did send got you started in the right direction.
