Default Searching for parts and recalls, do I have a S10 or a Blazer?

Some parts sites and the NHTSA site does not list a 1993 S10 Blazer. They have a 1993 Blazer and a 1993 S10.

Was there a 93 Blazer that was different than the S10 Blazer? That may be a dumb question but have never owned a Blazer before.

The main thing I'm interested in at the moment is a recall notice regarding the ABS. My S10 Blazer is 100% original, no mods or replacements done at all. Regular oil changes and brake pads is the only 'stuff' every replaced on it since it was new.

I bought it to deliver mail in (part time rural route carrier), so I have hills and bumps and LOTS of stop and go movement that the previous owner never ran into I'm sure. On the first day after stopping and going from several mail boxes, there was some kind of 'buzzing' noise when I pressed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor and wouldn't stop. I couldn't tell if it was an actual BUZZER or pump making a noise or vibration from the rotors. I was on level ground thankfully so I pumped the pedal and it stopped. The pedal pumped back up and was ok the rest of the day.

It then did it again the next day.

According to the NHTSA recall ID 99V193000, this is the exact problem I'm having. I called a local dealer and they said there is no recall on the part I mentioned. I called GM Corp. and some guy named Gilbert said there's NO recalls at all on my vehicle. But when I asked him to look up that recall ID from the NHTSA he said my vehicle is not listed because it shows '93 Blazers and '93 S10's but not '93 S10 Blazers.

The recall didn't happen 'til 2000 so the recall itself is not THAT old.

I know it's an old vehicle but recall notices do not expire so if something was recalled and they are supposed to fix it, I want to get it fixed.

There is also a safety improvement campaign from the NHTSA ID 99I006000 that lists problems with the brakes and that GM is fixing for free. But again, I think GM is giving me the run-around.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have a call in to the NHTSA waiting on a call back.

'93 S10 Blazer:

'93 Blazer:

One was full sized, one was not. The '93 S10 is a truck...looks like this:

You either have an S10 (truck with a bed) or an "S10 Blazer". They called it the S10 Blazer because it was the newer, smaller style Blazer. Blazer's prior to this were full sized (like the middle pic). The S10 and the S10 Blazer are the exact same vehicle from the B pillar up.

I guess the best way to tell would be to run your VIN.

Sisk is right. take your VIN into any dealership and have them run it. if there is any recalls, it'll show up, regardless of what they may say over the phone. remember, the dealer is gonna make money off the recall (not you, from General), so what would they care if there was or wasn't a recall.
personally, i hate those 1st gen ABS boxes (always acting up). i disconected mine @ first ('cause it was acting up), then disconnected it, and made a bypass block for the brake lines. i sure as hell hop that the pump isn't going, they 're expensive as hell to replace.

Thanks for the replies.

I know I have a S10 Blazer. What I mean by asking which I have, is in reference to when I'm looking up information.

So if for example looking for a part and if there is no listing for S10 Blazer I would search under S10 then since basically just the body is different?

Thanks.

it all depends on what info you're trying to figure out.
i've noticed that you have alot of questions posted (nothing wrong with that, it's how we learn things, right?), you should look at picking up a copy of a Hayes manual (i think just about every auto part store would carry on in Canada or the US. while these books are not the greatest (you'll probably have alot of ppl tell you that), they're a good place to get your hands dirty and goin' in the right direction.
but, never be afraid to ask for help, that's what these forums are for. good luck.
