RECALLS! Do you have any?
I just went through a lot of worrying and unnecessary $$$$ for nothing over some major brake and ABS problems on my 1995 GMC JIMMY 4x4. Got into an accident in 4WD on ice and just knew something wasn't correct with braking. Looked for some recalls on this forum and found some similar ones....called the GM Hotline and they asked me the info on my vehicle....stated they would get back to me on Monday (3 days) with an answer. Around Wednesday, I called them back and tried to reach the person who I talked to...to no avail. They called me back that afternoon and stated there wasnothing they could do for me since my vehicle was a 1995 and there weren't any recalls available.
O.K. back to square 1! How do I find out the problem for the (ABS) braking. Calleda smaller dealership in my area and told them what the low-down was with my brakes andasked themto check for ANY recalls that haven't been performed on this vehicle and/or diagnose problem only. They called me back and stated there were5 open recalls and one of them was my problem. A 4WD switch on the transfer case that relates info to the ABS system. Everything is getting paid for!

Even an area of about 30,000 people I found a smaller dealership that wasn't too busy. A lot of bigger dealerships may not want to take the time to do recalls and give you the same answer. They don't get paid as much from GM (Flat Rates, no profit on parts) so they just don't like to do them as much. Some of the smaller dealerships, as in my case, have a great Head Technician, but not overflowing business and gladly take this recall work for xtra income.
