I had the same problem with my 1987. There is a access door in the back of the plastic piece that you are talking about. Open it and remove the large screw holding the whole thing. The screw has what i call a star shape head,it is not slotted or phillips. That is the way I got mine out.By the way that screw is in ther tight,I hade to use a breaker bar to get it to move.I will give you the size it is later when I get out if someone doesnt come on with a better way which ther may be.

I believe it's a #27 Torx bit from when I took mine out a few years ago but don't hold me to the exact size. Anyway Torx it is and yes they are TIGHT!!! Breaker bar and push in real hard.

Default seat belt remove

I checked the bolts that I took out of my blazer today and it was a torque bolt t-50. It has been a while like I say but anyway the fix will probaly be nothing compared to getting that bolt out. When things on my ride get hard I just remind myself that the old gal is worth all the trouble.Mine is a 1987 by the way.

Its a TORX T50 that holds it on as the previous poster said, and they are tighter than a nuns c--t so careful you dont strip it.
