im using a innova code reader and it doesnt come up. says there are no codes.....weird cause i do get a CEL that comes on for about 20 seconds when im in driving and going about 70-75kmh and doing just under 2000 rpm then it will go out
soo strange
i really need to get this fixed, a full tank get me about 350km and costs about 65$$ and need about 1.5 tanks a week to get to work and back, sick of filling up every 3 days

I also have a 2.8L, though mine is the 85 2BL carbuerator... I have a haynes manual, but it directs me (for timing) to refer to a sticker on the inside of the hood for my timing information...

HUH?

I don't get it, there's no sticker inside the hood area-

Would the 10 degrees Advanced be the same for the 2.8L 2bl ? So does this mean I would move the mark traditionally for TDC to the 10degrees mark after the 0 (and we're talking in a clockwise direction I assume?? so it would be rotated 10degrees towards the driver side?)

At this point, I am not able to start my car - Getting a lot of backfire, and at one time I had heard and felt the engine compress/attempt to start for ... .5503238 seconds, but went right back to puttering and poofing smoke out the carb .... and the ECM was already pulled from this truck... it's very basic but I've never been able to figure out this timing thing.

Any help is always appreciated...

Also, any kind of sluggish (or failing) steering, suspension and tire condition/size effect mileage... If they are not inflated properly, different kinds of tires, or if they are huge swampers will affect your gas mileage.

You move the dizzy until the line on the harmonic is 10 degrees before 0 I forget which way but you should be able to tell with a timing light what you are doing.

OK. So I should get the car to TDC on the 1st cylinder then go Adv. 10 degrees on the timing mark? Ok... I'll give it a shot and see where it takes me

You set timing with the engine running and a timing light. You have to disconnect the brown timing wire inside the truck on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel at the firewall.

i looked for the timing wire, i cannot find it on mine, reading a chilton says to unplug the 4wire harness from the bottom of the distributor to stop the timing from advancing while trying to time the motor....does this make sense????

i do have a tanish brown wire but also has a black wire on the same plug, but when i unplug it my engine will not start????

On the older ones without a ECM you won't have a tan wire under the carpet. Do as your manual instructed.
