trans trouble

1994, 4.3engine. will not shift.no1st, 3rd, overdrive.2nd is all there is when in drive or overdrive or 1st, stays in second. also speedometer goes to 70mph when you stop, even when vehicle is shut off.I have never had a problem no slipage (nothing). any ideas

I guess i should add that reverse works fine and it goes into park. so i dont think the linkage is mess up.

might be an issue with your valve body or a bad filter.
What color is the trany fluid? and does it smell burnt?

color red. does not smell. I changed every 25000. due agin in 7000

Have you checked your fuses? I recall my Dad having the same issue with his 93. A fuse was blown and the trans is shifted by the ECM past the 1-2 shift. Korey.

No experience with the 94, but I know that the tranny did the same thing (stay in 2nd) and I had no spedo and my ABS went nuts when my VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) went out in the '95. VSS may be something to look into. A lot changed between 1994 and 1995, so someone more familiar with the earlier trucks may say otherwise.

I just wanted to thank all that help.
It was the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).
auto zone wanted 57.00 pruchased from the dealer for 42.00 imagine that, has to be a first.
