Where can I buy replacement body mount brackets? I've googled for 2 hours and can't find anything other than the bushings and hardware.

 

Anyone?

That doesn't have the actual bracket. That's what I need. Not the hardware.

 

Are you talking about the round bracket that the bolt and rubber mounts go thru?

If so, That is the actual frame of the truck. Your looking at a frame swap or getting a donor frame to cut the mounts off of and swap to yours but with that amount of rust a frame swap would be the better option.

 

Do you do any welding? I made brackets for mine out of 1/8" steel (I believe it was) and MIG welded them on. To note though, I only made pieces for the horizontal portion of the bracket and then welded them to what was left of the old horizontal piece and the vertical part of the bracket. They also doubled as shims. Worked out very well. If the vertical part of the bracket was toast, then I would have made the whole bracket. Besides that, I don't know where your could find them. Placement is fairly critical also if you end up cutting the old ones off, so measure well.

 

Thanks for the answers. That was my fear that those brackets were part of the frame and not really "replaceable" without welding. I was planning on getting a welder for this project but have no experience yet.

Do you guys know if the frames from the 2nd gen blazers fit the 1st gen? I have seen very few blazers around here that weren't already rusted out so I just wonder how hard it'll be for me to find a frame worth swapping to.

 

I wouldn't necessarily use this as my first welding project without proper training. Or at a minimum having an experienced there with you looking over your shoulder. Not trying to discourage you, but something like this where your safety is concerned does merit some hands-on experience achieving proper heat, penetration and flow.

 

No no experience yet. I want going to jump in and try that first. But this restoration is partly to restore it and partly to learn all these skills. I have a buddy who can help with welding. I'm gonna keep an eye out for another frame though...

 

Go for it and jump. Sharpen your welding skills under the truck where nobody can see. Let your buddy watch you weld and give tips while he drinks your beer. They just have to be strong, not pretty. "Filler and paint makes you the welder you ain't."
