1999 zr2 hard to start, now no start
ive read a bunch of threads on here on the passlock system and im leaning toward that being the problem, but im not 100% so i figured i would ask some opinions. please read the story and post your opinion. i bought this 1999 zr2 a couple months ago at a decent deal because it had some issues, one of which was that it was hard to start. it would turn over for about 5 seconds or so and then start (seemed to help if you tapped the gas), but it started and it had a rough idle. drove it like that for about 500 miles or so and then it got to where it wouldnt always start. now it starts and immediately dies and then i get nothing. fuel pump doesnt run when the key is turned on. 0 fuel pressure. i was thinking it was the fuel pump, but the way it worked off and on tends to lead me away from that. please give me any and all opinions and/or things to test. thanks in advance for the info, ian

I'm not sure if you have seen either of these threads, but they may be of some help:
Engine Cranks But Does Not Run
No-Start - Engine Cranks OK - Ignition System Diagnosis
It is also possible that the ignition switch is at fault (see the link in my signature). It can cause all sorts of whacky things to happen.
A problem with the Passlock system would not inhibit the fuel pump prime when the key is initially turned to the 'RUN' position.

Very common issues for your 99 ZR2 not starting or dying while driving include:
#1 Fuel pump- even if it is good should be updated to new stlye with better connectors, the pump will fail- just a matter of when
#2 Ignition switch- when the ignition switch starts to fail gives all the same symptoms of a failing fuel pump
#3 Crankshaft speed sensor
#4 distributor cap/ rotor
Good luck....
