fuel gauge reads more than full

Default fuel gauge reads more than full

i guys i just bought an oldsmobile ravada 97 wth the 4.3 engine. Im havingthis problem with my gauge always reading more than full tank, i tried disconecting the fuel sender unit to check if it was the floater thing but evend do i disconnected everything even the fuel pump the gauge goes up. Im erally lost here so any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Your gauge could be bad or you could have a bad wire between the sender and the PCM/BCM.

i already replaced the istrument panel and it does the same thing. how do i check for a bad wire.. do it do it just phisically or check resistance??? where is the ecm or pcm that you mentioned


so i found some more symptoms... if you turn off the car the needle goes to like 1/4 of gauge but *** soon as you start the car the needle goes up.

I would check continuity to ground. I do not have access to the proper wiring diagrams at this very moment and likely will not get to them anytime today. Hopefully someone else has them handy...
