how exactly did your friend determine that the ABS code is result of the fluid? did he tell you what the code was?
i have just under 150K miles on my '98, and it's never had the brake fluid flushed, other than the bleeding i did when i replace the rear calipers.
and putting your phone # up for a reply? not really a good idea, IMO. any yahoo that is surfing the net can now have access to your name & #.

I think your friend is way off track. I had the same issue in a previous vehicle and it ended up to be a bad wire at the wheel sensor. It's also possible that it's the sensor itself.

while it is recommended to change the brake fluid in your vehicle (every couple of years i think) i can't see the actual fluid being the issue.
find out the codes & do a search (either here on the forum, or with your friend).

yes if you brake fluid is low it could come on.
prob should be looking into some pads
