02 s-10 blazer 4x4 hard starting
hows it going i'm new to the site well I have a 2002 4 dr s-10 blazer 4x4 that is a pain to start. once you get it started it runs like a champ. It's usually when the engine has been off for a bit it crank and crank then it'll finally start. if you make a short trip into the store and come back out it'll start right up seems like a primeing problem to me anyone know what exactly it is. its got new plugs, wires and disturbutor. I was thinking it was the fuel pump but when its running theres no problems at all.
When is the last time you installed a new set of AC plugs?
You should test to see that you have 60psi fuel pressure.
A faulty coolant temp sesor can also create a hard start cold condition.
Have you had it checked for codes?

Try turning the key on and waiting for a few seconds (5-10). If it then starts fine, then there is a leak in the fuel system somewhere. Whether it is in the FPR (fuel pressure regulator), leaky injectors, or possibly the check valve in the pump, that is to be determined. If it doesn't help completely cure the problem, then that may lead me to believe that either the FPR or injectors are leaking into the plenum. As a result, not only is the fuel pressure low, but the engine is also flooded with fuel...
Now mind you, what I have listed is a quick check, but the conclusions I have drawn are pretty worst case scenario. I believe the injector spider in your truck is the newer MPFI design which is MUCH less prone to failure than the older SCFI spider. The SCFI spider usually gets clogged poppet nozzles that cause problems.
Anyway, let us know the outcome of letting it prime the fuel pressure a bit before you attempt to crank it over.

alright well i let it set 15 to 20 seconds and it's still hard starting. It doesn't matter what the temp is its still hard starting when its cold out or hot out. Well saturday I went to start it and it was hard starting and now the check engine light came on and is still on. Then today I can here the fuel pump humming which I don't remember being able to hear it before. It's my girlfriends car so Its completely stock, but now that we just got a house i'll be makeing some major changes to it which number one is getting it back up to proper maintenance then putting a lift and bigger tires on it.
alright taken me alittle bit to repost. well I tried turning the key to let the fuel pump run for acouple of seconds and its still hard starting. after playing with it I found out if I lightly pump the gas pedal it'll crank up faster. And as I posted above that the check engine light was on well it went off shortly after i posted it well over a month ago and hasn't came back on.Is there a checkvalve to keep the fuel from leaking back into the tank while the engine is off or is that in the fuel pump.I just checked the price on fuel pumps and 275 bucks and not exactly excited about paying that much unless i'm for sure thats the problem or could it be the fuel regulator. Once its running it has no problems at all it runs fine and powerful its just when starting the darn thing. oh and sorry I posted that its a 2002 well its a 2001 if that makes any difference which i don't
With fuel injectioned vehicles pressing the "gas" pedal a few times should have no affect on how the truck starts... with that said this would lead me to believe that there might be a problem related to either the TPS or IAC in the TB...
You should also get the computer scanned for codes, even though the SES light shut off does not mean that the computer is not storing a pending code if the problem did not go away...

Just a guess, but I'm thinking that if it starts easier with your foot on the gas that the problem is a FPR or leaking injectors. If you have a build-up of fuel in the engine and you step on the gas (opening the throttle plate) allowing more air into the intake, you are "clearing the flood" condition.
I would check with a fuel pressure guage, to see what your maximum fuel pressure is and how quickly it drops when you shut off the key.

Ok first off i'm new to this site.. i have a 99 2door zr2 blazer.. my truck won't start cold just like said before when the truck is warm it will start sometime... but as soon as i put jumpers on it it will fire right up.. i think it's the fuel pump but i just did it like 4 months ago.. new batter new starter new filter i have a lot of new parts... i have also been told it's the fuel pump cuz of the fuel pressure that it needs 62psi to start and run ok but it's should have 65psi
I appreciate the input I was thinking it kind of seemed like it was flooding out as well because sometmes it starts right up and had a feeling it could do with the fuel pump regulator. well I'm going to go ahead and start there since its only 20 or 30 bucks for it. my next question is where is the regulator located and how hard is to to replace. I'm not to fimilar with fuel injected systems now give me a carbeurated and I can fix that in no time.
