Default 1995 wont stay started.....

Ok i used the search and couldnt find what i was looking for so i guess i'll just ask.

I have a 95 LS and on Wednesday it worked fine, went picked up the room mate at lunch time came home and parked it. Then on Thursday at 1PM I went to jump in it to leave and it would start up and then die as so as I released the key. Tried it a second time and same thing. It started then when a released the key it died. I tried it so many time the battery drained.......anyone here have any ideas on what it could be. It's almost like its starving for fuel, I can hear the fuel pump running so I dont think its that.

I've had so many problems with it i'm about ready to (god do i even say it) buy a Ford....LOL No im not gonna go that far but I am getting rid of it when I fix it and find something easier on gas.

Thanks in advance , YOU GUYS ROCK

Sounds like a security lock out. If your ignition switch is failing, the vehicle will think it's a bad key/hot wire, and shut off the fuel supply, rendering the vehicle immobile.

Go out and try it again, if it does the same thing, let it sit for 10 minutes (at least 10, so give it 11 to be safe). If it still stalls out on you the switch could be all gone, or it could be another problem.

Another way to diagnose would be to pour some gas down through the throttle body. This eliminates the fuel pump and injectors and everything else. If the engine runs for a couple seconds off the fuel you poured in, then you've got a supply issue. This could still point to the ignition switch, but at least it rules out spark/air/engine problem.

I'm not positive if the 95s had the flashing security light to indicate fault mode, I know my 2000 has it, just not sure about 95. Mine does this occasionally (my ign. switch is not all bad yet ) and the yellow SECURITY light flashes on the instrument cluster if I let the engine die, leave the key in.

Good luck!

Ok i went out and charged up the battery and checked the connections coming off the distributar and some other connections. there was a loose one i have no idea what its connected to but as soon as i reconnected it the truck fired right up and stayed running. so i guess i wont be buying a F$#D after all.
