1997 blazer wont shift out of park

tonight i was driving my blazer . put in 4 hi at least the light was on but didnt fell like it. went to store and when i came out the blazer started but wont shift out of park .parked on a flat surface , tryied to rock blazer didnt help.tried pushing into 4 lo ,high,2 wheel . light inside was changing but still did not help me.where do i start? thanks

i cant get it to shift out of park unless i manually overide it. also noticed that i have no brake lights. could it be the brake light switch under the steering column / thanks

What do you mean "manually overide"? Does the key switch turn smoothly? I don't know if I can go in reveres without my foot on the brake to tell you the truth.

If you have no brake lights, the switch under the dash would be the first place to look.
