2001 Blazer & 3 Fuel Pumps
Hi all, back in June after 5 years I had a fuel pump failure. After 2 weeks from an aftermarket pump from mechanic, another failure. 1 month after that, another failure & now 2 months from that, another failure. I believe the last pump installed was a Delphi and all other were cheap after markets.
I noticed that the ground to the filler neck was disconnected. Questions are is Delphi a good brand or should I go right to dealer at this point?
Also would a faulty ground to or from the pump cause these failures? The mechanic tells me that each time this has happened it is a burnt out pump.
Really at a loss after today's failure.
Thanks.

3 pumps in 4 months indicates a poor pump ground, it will cause premature failure every time, guaranteed. The ground wire on the filler neck is NOT the ground for the fuel pump. The fuel pump ground is located in a different place depending on 2 door and 4 door. Resistance and voltage drop, both need to be checked at the pump module connector. Whenever the pump is replaced, it's a good idea to run a new ground wire from the module connector directly to a good, clean body ground. This will avoid what you're experiencing. Delphi and AC Delco are the only recommended brands for pumps on these vehicles, but a poor ground will destroy them as well.
2001 Blazer: From the fuel pump module, the ground wire goes to a splice pack, (along with 4 other ground wires) behind the rear bumper. From the splice pack it goes to the extreme left rear corner of the frame, on top of the frame rail, (not easily visible, but it's there). At the module connector there are two black wires: Solder those two together along with a third wire. Run the third wire to a good body ground. Use 60/40 lead/tin rosin core solder and heat shrink tubing to insulate the connection.
