I called both of our local parts stores here and they call it a transfer case motor... Does that sound right? I asked about a transfer case switch and was told it is sold complete as a unit I guess??? The cheaper one is $246 + tax with a life time warranty...

NO...don't go there (yet)...Ask them about GM# 15664811...either get that number or they can most likely 'cross' it to another manufacturer...Dorman (popular) has it as number #600500...WAY less $....Jerry....PS both are the same part and I'm sure others make it as well...

Ok... AutoZone carries the Dorman brand in stock for $14.95..... MUCH better than $246 for the entire motor lol!!! I didn't think that sounded right because the 4x4 on his truck works just fine, no problems, only when it is in 2hi that that stupid sound is there. My neighbor smiled from ear too ear when I told him the price difference In fact I am heading out the door in a bit and I am gonna just buy it for him. Is it hard to install, like it looks easy from what I can see, don't want to miss anything though...

I use a 25/32nds open end wrench to get it out..(you obviously could use its metric equiv)..threads in and threads out. There is one propr way the 3 hose connector goes on..you'll see a little 'tit' on the switch-make sure this lines up with the hose connector. One last thing..notice on the new switch the 'relaxed' position of the check ball..notice if the old/removed one, the check ball is 'froze'-in the 'up' position..the is generally a huge clue you're on the right track..Good luck...Jerry

Where did you find a 25/32 wrench? Didn't know that even existed?

I just don't want too get his hopes up and it turns out the switch didn't fix the problem... If it dosen't fix it then most likely he will need the transfer case motor??? I know it will take him several months too come up with that kind of money, but I got that covered if need be I will "lie" to him and say 1 of my Forum buddies mailed a "spare" 1 they just had sitting around their garage lol!!! He is a very proud man and would never accept it if he knew I actually bought it for him... He is already throwing a fit over the stupid $15 dollar switch I already bought

I just have a favorite wrench I always grab when doing this job and it happens to be a 25/32nds..When you get the switch, size it up with whatever size open end you have. The old one in the vehicle should be the same size..Good luck!
