Unhappy 4-HI acting up when turning sharply

2004 3 button 4WD acting like tires are scraping on something, but they are not. Its kind of a chattering when turning the wheels sharply left or right in 4-HI. No symptoms in 2-HI and I forget about it until I put it in 4-HI. Then it drives fine until I have to turn sharply or turn while backing up.
Then the front wheels chatter like crazy. 4 DR Blazer WGN 2004 V6 4.3 SEFI.

That sounds pretty normal if you are turning a dry pavement.

think of it this way... in 4 hi you have 2 sets of wheels getting power....

SO when you turn sharply on something with crazy traction (like black top) you have 2 wheels pulling you where they are pointed (front) and 2 wheels pushing you forward (rear) this will cause a kind of chugging, clipping motion.... it's normal.

turning sharply (or even more than gently) in 4wd on pavement or other high traction surfaces will cause a bit of strain and a rough feel. it's normal...

"Normal" but not something you should be doing if you can help it. Wears on your rings. Use 4WD only when and where necessary.

Yep, as stated, this is completely normal. You definitely should not be trying to make this happen though. The drivetrain is binding up because the transfer case links the front and rear driveshafts together, driving them both at the same speed. When you turn, all 4 wheels take different paths. This causes drivetrain bind as the driveshafts are trying to turn at different speeds and causes the symptoms you describe.

Boy I feel better now! Thank you all very much for the insight and will punch up 2-HI next time I have to make tight turns. You are the best.
