You will have to narrow it down. Does the engine look like this?

if so, pull off the upper intake plenum, which will give you a good view of the fuel injector.
Look for spots of watching (golden color on the intake) and raw puddled fuel.
If its all black carbon under there, then the leak is elsewhere (most likely the check valve in the fuel pump)

The plenum is pretty easy to get off, take off the air intake, then there are 10 - 10mm bolts, Then there are 2- 8mm bolts that hold the throttle linkage to the plenum, to get the throttle cable undone, open the throttle by hand all the way and the cable will come out (kinda how they are held on for bicycle brakes)
Then there are 2 vac lines on the back of the plenum, a small one on the passenger side, then a large one that connects to the brake booster in the middle.
I have found that the big one that connects to the brake booster is much easier to get off the brake booster and leave it attached to the plenum.

once that is all done, unhook any sensor that is attached to the plenum, MAP, TPS ect. then you should be able to lift it straight up and take it off.

Take photos to post if it will help to determine if there is a leak.

If there is no leak in the plenum, get a new gasket and reinstall.
The bolts should be torqued to 124 inch lbs according to my manual.

you think the check valve woukd cause the constant rich running condition, rough ide and hard starting? I can understand the pressure drop, and yes that image is the motor I have. thx for the info
