95 blazer tcase input shaft seal help
tcase input shaft seal
Finally got around to dropping the transfer case, NP 231 C, to replace the input shaft seal. From what I read you could simply pry the old one out with a screwdriver. Not going well. Outside of seal was like brittle plastic, inside is like...brittle melted rubber coming apart in little chunks. But I noticed a...not sure what to call it....a metal bushing/sleeve I guess, with a lip, surrounding the seal, and I'm not sure if it's part of the seal, or part of the transfer case meant to hold the seal. You can sort of see it in the top left of the picture behind the rubber of the seal, where I damaged it a bit with the screwdriver. From viewing replacements online, none of them appear to have a metal sleeve with a lip around them, so I'm assuming this is part of the tcase and i've screwed myself by damaging it. Can anyone confirm this? And if so, can it be replaced? Thank you.
Edit: Also, since it's coming apart in pieces, I wont have the old one to compare to the several different styles I see online as replacements, can anyone point me to the correct replacement part? Thanks again.
