Default Any way to evaluate transmissiion cooler?

I have a 98 Blazer LS w/ 75k,and it has developed the dreaded intake manifold leak. I never had a low coolant level before the leak developed, and I don't see too much dex-cool rusty sludge around, and I don't have general overheating. However, I am concerned that the AT could be overheated if the radiator has sludge forming around the transmission cooler. Is there a way to monitor the performance of the radiator to be sure the AT is not being overheated. Anything, such as a scan tool output, or a spot where I could attach thermocouples, or whatever trick somebody knows about to check out the cooling. Thanks.

Why not throw on a n external tranny cooler? They work much better than the stock internal one and are pretty cheap insurance. I put one on the Yukon and the trans has over 200k on it with no problems, towing, hauling, off-roading....

You can stick a thermostat in the cooling fins to check the temp, check with your local autoparts store for the thermostat. However if the engine temp isn't higher then normal, I doubt the tranny temp has gone up.

However the best way to monitor the tranny temp is to install a tranny temp sensor in the tranny pan and put the gauge in the cab of the truck.

Ok, do you know what the correct temperature is for the transmission?
