Hi guys, my manual calls for auto trac II fluid to fill the transfer case, I've heard some people just use dexron III. I have also heard people say not to use tranny fluid to fill the transfer case, so I'm just wondering whats the deal, can dexron replace auto trac?

 

Auto trac II is reverse compatible, Dexron III is not. Meaning you can substitute Auto trac II for Dexron III, but if your transfer case specifies Auto trac II you should not use Dexron III.

i went to my local pepboys and started chatting with my buddy that works there. i told him i was gonna do the tcase fluid change like 2 more weeks, and told him i needed autotrac2 from the dealer cuz it was only a dealer item. he told me i could use royal purple synchromesh stuff, that it worked the same, and that it has worked on other ppls tcases as well. what do you guys think? oh and if the royal purple does work, than can i use penzoil synchromesh? it says all the same crap on the bottle as the RP, but costs like 10 bucks less.
