Default Blazer is "quitting" while accerlating

As the original owner of a 2000 Chevy Blazer with 97,000 mile I am experiencing a problem. When the fuel is less than 1/2 tank the truck quits when accellerating. I can slip it into neutral and it will re-start and as long as I keep the rpms under 2 and work up speed slowly it will run. Never have had a problem. Had fuel filter changed and ran a tank of gas thru it and seemed to be fixxed, then last night when tank was alittle less than a 1/4 it did it again....can anyone give me some advise?

Sounds like the pump in the tank is sucking up the fuel at a higher point than intended, although I can't imagine how. Maybe the unit cracked or a line came off somewhere in the tank.
I would get a fuel pressure gauge and tape it to my windshield and go drive around. Paying attention to the fuel pressure when the problem acts up. Sounds to me like you and your fuel tank are gonna be spending some quality time together.

If the problem only happens when under 1/2 tank, I would think it is a problem with the fuel pump assembly sucking air... Can you confirm that it is only when it is low on fuel? Does it do it consistently or is it just a coincidence that you were below a 1/2 tank?

Default Response to your question:

Yes, that is what I am seeing. I've been watching for about 3 weeks now.
I has never happened when the tank is between full and 1/2. But let me tell you once you hit a 1/4 of a tank......it starts. So I'm pretty sure it's related. Would you have anyother ideas?

If it truly is related to the fuel level, then there has to be a problem with the pump assembly. It could be a problem with the pump heating up and not running at full speed, causing a drop in fuel pressure when the engine is at higher fuel demand (high load, higher RPM).

If you can get a gauge with a long hose and attach it to the fuel rail and then tape it to the windshield, you could monitor the pressure when this happens. If the pressure drops off quickly and then recovers, the pump is sucking air. If it progressively gets lower as the RPM & load increase, then the pump is weak.
