Blower Motor?

Another issue with my 98 LT. For the last little while, when I have the heat on, there was a noise kinda like a plastic grinding/rubbing noise. Today when I started the blazer and turned the heat on, it did that noise accompanied with a loud squeak and then quit completely. Now when I turn the dial full blast.. nothing.
Is this the blower motor or something else?
Also, I called around for some pricing, what is HVAC or Automatic climate control. Do I get the motor equipped with these or no?

Sure sounds like the blower motor bearings went out on you. Test for power & ground at the blower motor connector in all of fan positions. If you have power & ground, then the blower motor is shot.

I'll go test for power now but yeah, it sure seems like it is the motor. Do all 98 LTs have the same blower motor? When I called for pricing they said there are two available. The one with automatic climate control and one with out. Its a difference of a $100.00. Which one do I get? Also, will I need to get the blower motor resistor? What is that?

Hello HwyRunner,
I just replaced the blower motor in my 97.
You should be able to know what kind of system you have
by answering a few questions
Do you have air conditioning? Are your controls manual?
Look at this web link from rockauto. It will give you a quick idea
on prices and parts available for you 98.
RockAuto Parts Catalog
Follow what Swartik said about checking the power. It will rule out the resistor.
If you have a garage to keep warm in you should be able to pick up the blower
motor and replace it yourself.
Not too bad of a job. Mine was the original. You'll have to do a little cutting of some plastic
to get to it for replacement if it is like my 97. Really a dumb design.
Good Luck - Mark

manual control = 3 or 4 speed
automatic climate control = about 20 knotch for speed and a AUTO mode.
i did it on my 98 with auto climate and i had to cut the black plastic under the hood(its marked ''cut here for service'') took about 1hr.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I dont have a garage to do it so I'll have to go to a shop (hopefully the labor isnt brutal). I guess I do have automatic climate control because I definitely have more than 4 speeds and I do have one that says auto, and I have A/C. I found a motor for $90.00. Thanks again for the replies.

did mine in the driveway two days ago.. not hard, disconnect battery, remove pcm, remove coolant bottle, cut plastic cover off fan, remove fan, replace and reverse steps... takes about 30min to 1 hr and a bunch of small 1/4" sockets
got my fan for $30 new from napa (had manual controls)
mine kept blowing the fuse in the high position...
napa has the auto climate fans for $55

So after you cut that plastic seems to me water could get in there from the windshield and leaking hood seal. Or is that brilliant design to keep fumes out. Mine just started making noise and I figure it wont be long before it craps out.

I didn't seal it back, but you could use weatherstripping glue to seal it back

seal it with black rtv, or it will suck the air right under the hood... and might get wet.
