Default Brake pad wear indicator position?

When installing rear brake pad, where does the wear indicator metal tab go in relation to the rotor and front/rear of the car? I believe the wear indicator goes on the in side inboard pad position. Would the tab then be at the front position of the vehicle meaning it would be the trailing last spot for rotation, when rotor going forward?

My Wearever pads from Advance Auto Parts are identical. They both have a wear indicator on the same end. That means that when you flip them to install them on the rotor, one wear indicator is on the leading edge of the rotor and the other one the trailing edge of the rotor! So in my case, it doesn't matter. Both the leading edge and trailing edge are covered. This is the first time I have seen this configuration. I would still like to hear the answer to 'Walkgood's' question: if there is a set of pads with only one wear indicator, is it mounted on the leading or trailing edge of the rotor?

I've changed the brakes more than a few times over the years on my Blazer. Every set has had the wear indicator on all four pads. The pads will only fit into the clips in one position, with the indicators in the forward position, as in trailing.

This

Although they should technically fit either way, install them so that the tab is on the trailing side, not the leading. Although it would still function the other way, you run a good chance of badly gouging up the rotor when it does eventually get down to the indicators just because of the way the tab is going to dig into the rotor if it's on the leading side.

My Adv Auto Wearever rear pads are identical in that they fit either inboard or outboard on the caliper. They are also identical in that the wear sensor is located on the same end. Evidently they were made on the same production line to be efficient for both production and packing for shipping. I have no problems with that. I have previously seen the pads with a wear sensor tab on only one of the pair of pads. That is apparently what Walkgood purchased.
