Default broken-off allen heads on front caliper.

well my '97 has a interesting issue. when dad owned it he was doing front brake pad replacement and on the right side the allen slider pin that the caliper rides on broke off. he had already done the left side and must have forgotten about the right side. i found it while looking it over and i broke off the other one trying to get it out. im thinking i need to heat the knuckle where the threads are and try and turn the stud with vise-grips, but i was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. im about to go out to the "parts" rig (a '94) and see what i can get apart on it. any thoughts, ideas or experiances? thanks.

Sounds like a plan. Maybe soak it with pb blaster for a while then heat it up and grab the pins. Can you get at the pin? Might have to cut the caliper off

got the right side of the "parts" '94 apart, so at least i'll have a useable knuckle, looks like i'll probly need a new caliper, putting heat on the knuckle where the pins thread into destroys the piston dust seal. i probly need new cailpers anyhow.

New calipers aren't all that expensive and the pins are part of the hardware kit that includes the boots as well.

managed to get the bolts out without ruining the caliper and didnt need the knuckle i got off the parts truck. but better to have parts ready then to have to scavange them if things go bad. i did use new bolts for the caliper.brakes are no place to use used hardware.
