Default A/C Pressure

I was having problem with the A/C compressor kicking on for 30 sec then of for about 10-15 sec. I got a can a freon with the guage already attached and when i hooked it up it is reading around 42 PSI. I was wondering if that is good or if I need to had more. I had the blazer run for about 15-20 minutes and the compressor never kicked off.

Do I need to add more freon?

Thanks

i dont think i would add more. The pressure is already a tad on the high side. the compressor on mine kicks on and off also, i think its supposed to do that. Not 100% on that though. does it get cold? Did you bleed some air out of it when you added the r134a?

I was wondering if I need to lower the pressure.

What is the evaporator temp on Max A/C. Put a thermometer by the closest vent to the evaporator (right side passenger usually) and see what it is. A thermometer with a probe you can put inside would be best. I use a digital meat therm from walmart. Generally speaking, your evap temp and low side pressure should be pretty close. I have a chart somewhere around that tells you exactly.

EDIT: Like with all things psi or vacuum related, altitude matters too.

You may need to purge the system of air.

with the vehicle running and the ac on, take the cap off of the high pressure side and push the valve open with a phillips screwdriver and it will let the air out, just do it until r134 starts to come out. You may need to add more r134 after you bleed the air out. you should notice that the ac will be colder after you do this and your compressor shouldnt shut off as much. hope this helps.

What should the PSI be after I releive some air and if I need to had some more freon.

Thanks for the info.
