Default A/C Question

97 Blazer. Wanted to replace my compressor and dryer. Just wanted to know, the kit I'm going to get also comes with a "A/C expansion device" is that also on my Blazer's A/C system too? If so , where would that part be located? It's a long white filter looking part. Thanks.

I'm not sure without going out & looking at my 97 Blazer exactly were it is located, but it is on the high side coming out of the evaporator to the condenser. All A/C units have an Expansion Valve or an Orifice which is what your system has.

The 97 Blazer will have an Orifice tube. This is a small plastic piece that just slides into the metal lines at the dryer or accumlator. You will see it when you take it apart.

Be sure to add the correct amount of refrig oil to the accumlator before installing it and have the system evaculated as soon as you can after replacing the parts. Need to get tha air out of there and replace with R-134.

Oh and be very careful of those metal lines...they are aluminum and will easily twist; always use two wrenches at each connection and replace the O rings at each connection. Put a dab of refrig oil on the O rings as you install them. I just pour a bit of oil into the oil bottle cap and place the O rings in the oil, take them out as replace them.

Keep everything as clean as you can....no dirt into the system.

Good luck

Thanks.......I need to have the system evacuated FIRST? before I start replacing parts? right? And AFTER I replace all the parts? Plan on replacing the pump and dryer and this A/C expansion device.....thanks.

Sorry...not been able to get on here.

No, the system has to be evacuated AFTER replacing parts. But technically the freon should be pulled out of the system and then the parts replaced so as to not release the freon into the air. This is how a shop would do it. This way they can recover and reuse the freon (if any) is still in the system.

Ok, thanks. They want $100 bucks just to drain the remaining freon out! Rip off! Got to be done though.
