Check engine light PO442 error code

Check engine light PO442 error code
My check engine light is on, again. PO442 code. The guys at my auto parts store keep telling me to check the gas cap. The code means that its an evap malfunction of something, like gas fumes are getting somewhere they don't belong. I tighten the gas cap and it's been almost 3 weeks since I filled the tank and it wasn't on. Has anyone else had this problem? That light is so frickin annoying
