Default cleaning engine compartment

Usually with cars i just spray some oil eater all over and, then hose it off. Is there anything i should cover up before doing so other then the distributor?

I cover the alternator, battery and pcm just for good measure with a plastic bag along with the distributor.

Yep, that's what you need. Granted I also pull off the stock intake assembly and put a cover over the throttle body inlet. I have a soft PVC plug that just fits on it. This way I can get at the front of the block and whatnot.

The best way I have found to clean engines(gas or diesel) is to take the obvious precautions for sensitive components utilizing tin foil On a cold engine-spray simple green everywhere-let sit for 30 minutes: then hose it off! Easy on the pressure!
If oil or water leaks out,it can leak in as well Once the motor dries on its own, start and run till hot while driving-let cool-then apply a tire shine product fairly librally! You will have to smooth the shine out with a rag and in tightspots,
.I think you will be surprised at the results! Do NOT spray clear paint on it!
