That's a handy light under the hood, near the trailing edge. But mine isn't working.

The lamp is good, I checked it with a multimeter.

Is there a mercury switch that activates it when the hood is up? Where is it located?

Easy to fix this? Has anyone ran into this problem?

Thanks!

Yes there is a merc switch. I think its inline where the bulb goes.

Did you know they are supposed to be removed before a car is scrapped/crushed? It is a known heavy metal. Like Megadeth.

click here for a PDF on location on merc switch location and removal. I just found it.

So, if the light doesn't come on, I'm to assume the whole lamp socket needs to be replaced?

It's not on its own fuse, is it? I wouldn't think so.

Thanks!

With the hood up, obviously, stick a multimeter in the bulb hole (volts dc,) and see if you get any voltage readings.

It was hard enough to get the bulb out and then in again, but I'll give it a shot.

I might have to take the bulb socket off the hood to make the correct contacts.

But, YES, it might be easier to do this with the hood UP...!
