converting pushbutton 4WD to Lever
Hi, I have an 1995 blazer 4X4 3 button. and as it starts to show its age sometimes the 4WD engages sometimes it don't (usually when you need it the most). And, since its not a daily driver How hard would it be to install a linkage to engage the 4X4. after all it is a vacuum accuated linkage anyway right? I don't need to shift on the fly or anything just when I want 4X4 I want 4X4 not any backtalk from a push-button
So I guess my question is electronically what problems will I encounter if I put a lever in place of the vacuum actuator, and am I missing something besides the vacuum actuator?
Thanks.

More then 50% of the problems have to do with front axel engagement. There are two company's that make a manual rig. Posi-lock and alloy.
Everyone swears by posi-lock but to me Alloy look's like a better cable.
Or you can make your own rig.

The transfer case mode and range shifts are done by the encoder motor, which is electric. The right front axle is locked to the differential by mechanical linkage in the right front axle tube. It is operated by a vacuum actuator, which is depressed by linkage inside the transfer case when the encoder motor performs a mode shift. What are you looking to do?

I would like to have manual control of my 4WD So i guess Its easy enough to bypass the vacuum actuator. I'm cool with that. So how do I bypass the encoder motor? I usually have a TCCM code 2 anyway. I seldom use 4LO so i am not as concerned with it as I am 4HI.
So spittybays DIY only solves half my problem. credit where credit is due, I'm on my way to Napa as we speak.

Seems like one of the members, (maybe xgiovannix12) did a mod write up that eliminates the encoder motor, might be worth asking him. Involves removing the encoder and fabricate a shift handle. Need to cut a hole in the floor for the handle to stick through so you can manually shift the transfer case. 1995 came standard with a NV231 transfer case, which is manual shift. Might find one in a boneyard and take what you need. Get the posi lock that spittybays mentioned, and you're in bidness.
