Default Distributor Installation Help

After reinstalling my intake manifold, I went to install the distributor but lost the mark that I had it set at. So I followed the procedure to TDC but now every time that I go to install the distributor it is either before the 6 mark or after it.

I rotate the oil shaft just a hair and it seems like it throws it off completely. I tried adjusting with a magnetic screw driver and that was a mistake. Finally found a tool to use and I turn it just ever so slightly and it throws it off completely.

Is it possible that when I am putting the distributor in that its rotating the oil shaft on its own?

Search this site! The 6 refers to a six cylinder distributor not #1 TDC! Many instructions here!

I've found that i usually have to "lead" the rotor a little to get it to set right on the 6. That may require some trial and error with the rotor gear position to get it right.

wrong. The "6" denotes where the rotor should point when #1 is at TDC on a 4.3L V6.
