Distributor rotor hitting bottom of cap
#11
it could be that. i still think that since you cant remove the dist. you will need to remove the intake to get the room to inspect the damage. an inspection mirror (mirror on a telescopic shaft) and a small pin point flashlight will help you see the damage better.
trying to fix this yourself is cheaper than a shop (average shop rate $96.50 HR)
dont give up.

If the roll pin has worked its way out, you will not be able to remove the intake as the roll pin is catching in the block above the cam, not on the intake. If this is the case, then your only option would be to cut the distributor off and pull the intake to then get a look at it to determine how best to approach the removal. If you were to separate the stamped steel portion that the rotor sits onto from the main shaft, you should then be able to remove the distributor body. This may give you enough room to get the rest apart.
Another thing to try is rolling the motor over to try and turn the distributor so that the roll pin may point in the other direction. This may give you some more room if the roll pin is currently hitting the cam.
Either way you look at it, it sounds like you are going to be purchasing a new distributor.

Well I got the disty out with a 10 pound slide hammer. It was hung up by the parts that go between the drive gear and the plastic body of the disty. Now to see if I can retrive those parts with a magnet. If not, will those pieces fall all the way to the oil pan?
