Does anyone still do preventative maintenance?

To answer your question vetteandblazerman....yes.
I keep a small notebook in my glovebox, noting anything I've done to it since buying.
Nice to be able to flip through, see what I've done, and at what mile count.
Also, I'm very paranoid and and a little obsessive compulsive....so I'm constantly checking tires, fluids, etc.

The first time I did a good job cleaning out all the tamarack needles and little ash leaves I have 6 good hand-fulls. Some of them were blocking my AC evaporator and the others were blocking drain holes.

I took off the plastic cowl off removing the wipers and vacuumed all the accumulation out. Mine is iron wood trees needles. When the wind blows they come in force. They are planted for a wind break. I went to hardware store and purchased a roll of glue on foam rubber and placed it between windshield and cowl. There was a pretty good gab there. I was able to reach down inside the evaporator and use a small piece of irrigation hose stuck into my shop vacuum hose and clean that area out also.

Synthetic oil every 3000-6000 miles, filters every 6K miles, transmission fluid & filter every 35K, differential fluids every 50K, transfer case fluid every 50K (don't use 4WD that often), run the truck in low 4 every 45-60 days, complete cooling system flush & rebuild from radiator to water pump, to T stat & hoses @ 80K, belts & hoses every 30K-40K, new tires every 5-6 years whether they have meat on them or not, chassis lube every 3000-5000 miles, reflowed all the solder joints on the 4x4 selector switch, ECM, TCM, EBM etc. The wiper control box is conformally coated so no reflow is possible. I had to buy some replacement turd box from Doorman. IT SUX! If I can get my old board apart, I will just recap it & check the transistors. The OEM wiper control board was made by ITT. It has a lot more capacitors for the wiper delay. Doorman cheated and went from 7 or 8 capacitor to using a combination of 3. That does not work well at all. It saved them all of maybe $1. I did weather stripping & door pins @ 80,000 miles.

I just inherited my parents 05 jimmy and I've been looking through the manual.
I know you have to lube certain front end parts, but my manual also states to check and refill front and rear differential, if needed, every oil change. I dont think the fluids been changed since my parents bought it 2nd hand in 2009. Granted it only has 163k kms on it.
It's a great idea to have a notebook or a spreadsheet to keep records of when and what was done. I will do the same!

I spend time chasing rust. I'm in PA and we get a lot of salt on the road and moisture from snow, freezing ice, rain and ext.
I get up under and flap wheel or wire wheel the rust off then I use naval jelly. I wash the jelly off then let dry. I'll then prime it with a rust preventer, let it dry and then spray it with undercoating. I undercoated my frame rails about 5 years ago and let it really dry. Most is still on today.
If you live in a state that gets salt on the road I think it's a priority preventive maintenance to chase rust. Then of course all the other things posted before me.
I use 7500 mile oil but change it @3500.
