I looked at the wiring for the 2-wire vs 1-wire knock sensors some timae ago and due to the way they are wired I don't see how to use a different one than was originally installed. Really don't think grounding one wire will do the trick.

However, the retapping of hole in late block to 1/4 NPT for the early sensor sounds promising.

Intake/exhaust should be the same as far as I know. Use the wiring from your vehicle. If any small part is found to be different just use the part from the old engine.

Yes. I had a spark plug wire go bad on cylinder 2 and it actually gave me a cylinder 2 misfire code.

Good to know that sometimes the crank sensor calibration matches close enough to work. Thanks!

I got the 2001 Donor Blazer for $600.00

Come to find out he had a guy drop a engine
in from another blazer...so really don't know
what year this motor is until we pull it.

It did run and drive good except for the
brakes...there were none hardly..nail biting
drive to my mechanics shop....but oil pressure
was just over 40psi at idol, motor sounds good.

Is there a number on the block to get more info
from ?

Below is a pic of my engine and donor, it's got
some new parts on it I may be able to use.

On block right at parting line between head and block at front of passenger cylinder head.

Actually here is additional info: The three letter suffix in the code at the front of the passenger cylinder head (from last post) is not as revealing as on small block Chevys because as far as I know no one has really correlated the suffix codes with specific engines and cataloged them in a list.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) for the engine should be on a pad on the left side rear of the engine block where mates to transmission and is typically a nine digit number stamped or laser-etched onto the engine at the vehicle assembly plant.

•The first digit identifies the division.
•The second digit identifies the model year.
•The third digit identifies the assembly plant.
•The fourth through ninth digits are the last six digits of the vehicle's VIN.

Also of interest could be the typically 6-9 digit block casting number usually found cast into the block somewhere just in front of the transmission mating surface. The list below deals with the last three digits of the number and groups according to year range and block type.

4.3 v6 block casting
