Engine Squeeking Problem
2004 Chevy Blazer Zr2
Alright heres the deal, my belt seems to be making a sqeeking noise that is more prevalent when the car is just started up (cold engine). I have replaced the following: tensioner pulley, idler pulley, alternator, and the belt itself as the old belt was very worn out. None of the new hardware made any difference but the new belt seemed to fix the problem on the first day. Now the squeeking of the belt is back and I am guessing that it is slipping somewhere. The noise is very annoying and I would really like to remedy this problem. Is there anyway I can stop the belt from making this noise, it is absolutely driving me crazy.

RE: Engine Squeeking Problem
I had the same problem with my 96 Jimmy how i fixed it after all the other stuff failed was i got a different brand belt. I know you just bought a new one, i had a cheap brand on there from the owners before me and it has not had a problem since i replaced it. Its worth a shot good luck with it.

I had the same problem too, squealing when cold, only thing that solved it was buying a Goodyear Gatorback belt, and getting all the pulleys really clean. The Dayco and Gates belts I bought both squealed after only a few days of driving. If changing the belt doesn't work, there are a number of posts containing some other good ideas on this site, do a quick search for 'belt squeal'.

First thing to do is to isolate it to the belts and/or pulleys. Have you run the engine without the accessory drive belt on?

yeah i have im almost 100% sure that its not one one the pullies, could it be that the tentioner is not tight enough?

RE: Engine Squeeking Problem
To find the source on mine, I used a length of hose, put one end to my ear, and the other to different places along the belt while it was squealing. The squealing sounded like it was coming from the water pump, but spraying the belt with a bit of carb cleaner confirmed that it was indeed the belt slipping, not the water pump bearings. New tensioner didn't solve it, either.
