I’m having a no start issue on mornings after it rains, it starts after it dries out though so moisture is getting in to the system somewhere, I replaced the distributor cap and rotor a few months ago and had them checked again today so I know that’s not the issue, so that means it has to be either the coil or the wires. Not sure which so I’m just replacing them both just to be sure. Not able to find it on my own though I did take it in to the mechanic today and he said the wires were pretty shot anyway, though he wasn’t sure if that or the coil was the problem.

Right now I’m thinking of AC Delco Iridium spark plugs, NGK coil, and Standard Motor Products “Blue Streak High Performance” 8.5mm wires. I selected the non AC Delco stuff due to lower price and better warranty. I have not actually ordered anything yet though, I just want to make sure I’m not shooting myself in the foot. Thoughts on NGK and Standard Motor Products?

 

I've always used NGK plugs on my Toyotas in the past (91 Pickup, 02 Corolla, 06 Tacoma), and on recently acquired beater 98 Saturn SL2. Have never had an issue with them that was their fault (the 02 Corolla would foul plugs out regularly, but with 320k on the original engine, it also burned a quart of oil with every gas fill up lol).

Can't say that I've ever used Standard Motor Products parts though.

 

Just stick with factory AC Delco stuff as Blazin red has said. Most of the high performance wires are just a waste of money and you will not see any performance gains on a 4.3 The same goes for the coil.
As to the spark plugs, if you don't mind changing them every 30-50k miles just get some good NGK or ACdelco copper plugs and gap them correctly. Iridium plugs are good for longer mileage without needing to be changed, but usually come with a hefty price tag.
