I'm thinking about doing an electric fan conversion. I did one on my CJ7 a couple years ago.

they are good and bad. good because of the airflow. but there is so much more for them to go wrong then a good old mechanical one. besides like other have said the mechanical setup works darn good for what it is. electric you have motors, relays wiring. alot more to go wrong. mechanical you could bust a fan blade or a clutch could fail.

I was checking into electic fans myself. They go for about 250 bucks for a kit. I just replaced my fan clutch again (2 yrs ago the 1st time) good thing I have a life time warranty and I'm getting pretty good and fast at it, around 30 mintues off and on time. the biggest pain was the rad/fan cover over top. My fan clutch went out as I drop my wife off at the airport in rush hour in Phoenix. The Temp outside was 110, the Temp on the engine was around 245 and moving to red line. So I pull over, lite up a smoke, waited a little bit. Lifted the hood, play with the rad cap to relieve the pressure. Close the hood, open all the windows and put the Temp on max hot and fan at high and A/C off. And drove the 60 miles home through the rush hour traffic. I did build up a sweat needless to say but, made it! with the temp around 215.
Replace the fan clutch the next day...but, sure am looking at the electric fan kit, My 2009 Impala has 2 fans and runs just fine in this hot weather.
And yes I had the heavy duty fan Clutch on there. The org one went out after 8 yrs, those Auto Zone ones are crap. But have the life time warranty so their lose not mine.

Lifetime warranty... Really isn't their loss since you did spend the time on replacing it twice. To me, my time is much more valuable than the cost difference between budget parts and quality parts in most repairs.
I'm guessing that the single fan with thermo-viscous fan clutch has done pretty good for you up in high temperatures up until it failed after 8 years of service. I am also guessing that you wouldn't have the feelings you now have against such a setup had quality parts been used in the initial replacement.
