Default Front End Noise

I have a noise coming from the front end of my 2000 Blazer. It is like a popping noise. It started when I would step on the brake and now it is doing it when I go over bumps or even make a turn? I had it at the service station for new tires a month ago and they told me that my idler arm and center link needed to be replaced which I have not had done yet. Also I have a metal on metal noise when i make a sharp turn at slow speeds, noise seems to be coming from the front driver's side wheel?

Does anyone have any info, or has anyone gone through this before?

Use the search function at the top of the page, there is alot of info on "Front end Noise".

If your service guy said you need to replace some parts, that would be a good place to start. Check over your brakes as well.

Also if you just had new tires put on double check the lugs to make sure they are tight. I had some front end noise and it turned out my front drivers tire was falling off. 1 stud and lug broken right off, and all the rest were loose. Not Good.

Can't for the life of me remember who had the tires off last. Prolly me. lol

had the same thing happen to me as Jman. took the tires off the front end..and 2 studs snapped off. checked the front passenger and 1 stud broke. cheap parts I guess . replaced them and no problems since. I would recommend pulling the tires off and goign from there

Prop the hood up, it may be the hood hinges. Wiggle the hood on both sides of the Blazer. If it's loose, you can get hood parts at the dealer. They get loose and bother the hell out of people.

I have the same problem off and on. After reading earlier that it could be the hood hinges, I looked and saw these spongy rubber shims that are around the hinges, and that the hood apparently makes contact with when it is closed. These had gotten very dry, brittle, and un-spongy. I'm sure they ideally should be replaced, but what I did was apply a generous amount of silicone spray to sort of plump them up a little. It may be a temporary fix, but it seems that I am hearing and feeling a lot fewer popping or clunking noises.

Get the parts replaced that you were told were worn out.

Just this weekend we had a car come in where the owner was complaining of drifting in turns. I got it up in the air and noticed his outter tierod was gone. I mean the only thing holding it together was the rubber boot. The owner is darn lucky the tierod didn't seperate, they would have lost all control of the car and ending up in the ditch, hopefully at slow speeds. You are playing with death by not getting your steering parts fixed. The parts that were recommended to replace have direct control on steering your truck. GET THEM REPLACED. I wouldn't worry about hood noise at teh moment, and yes, you can spray it with silicone to rejuevent the rubber. Reapeated soakings will get it back into good shape.

As for the grinding noise in turns, that sounds like wheel bearings. The hub assemble is around $170 bucks, and takes about 1/2-1hr labor to change.
