Default Fuel gauge issue in 96.

So hi guys!

I own 1996 Blazer 4x4. Odo is now approx 166000miles. My fuel gauge is making somekind of funny things. When I press brakes gauge needle jumps to E and when I floor it gauge needle jumps to an F. There is no guaranteen that how much there is real fuel level. When idling needle is jumping around. Is my sender unit broken in the tank or is whole gaugeunit broken?

I would 'assume' the issue is the sender but that being said...No guarantee...I am pretty sure there (in a manual or search online) a way to unplug the fuel pump plug @ the tank and probe out the 2 smaller wires (fuel gauge pos and neg)...and watch the gauge...Depending on how it is wired...it may go all the way to full of perhaps to empty...If you had an old fuel pump...assuming the gauge worked in it....you could extend the wires for a test and jump to the old unit and work the float manually and it should respond.. This would verify something...Good luck....Jerry
