hi my 97 blazer has that classic problem of the gas gauge not reading properly. last night i dropped the tank and put a new fuel pump unit in it. ( iv been told this would take care of the problem) okay heres the funny part , before i replaced the fuel pump it would always read full or 3/4. after i replaced it reads empty or 1/4. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on what this means or maybe the possibility of it being the gauge itself.?

I had a 86 k5 blazer that did the same thing. I replaced the sending unit and it did not fix anything. I did replace the gage and that fixed it. It is rare that a gage would go bad, but it can happen. Kind of doubt it on the new stuff though.

you didnt put the new pump in incorrctly didya. The arm that swings back and forth for the guage registry seems to be swinging the oposite way,, if ya can understand what i just wrote LOL does it sound right?if the veh is leaning down hill you`ll get one reading if the veh is uphill you`ll get another reading... also when did you last fill up? if ya havent yet try doing that and then see what happens..

haha im pretty sure i put in in properly (if i didn't think i did i wouldn't have put it back on the truck so i could be wrong lol) and i do understand what u were getting at. i parked it on my hill both going up and down ( i live on a big hill) and the needle was pegged on empty the whole time. im thinking i might go pull a couple of gauges out of the junk yard see if a cant find a good one. if that doesnt work looks like ill be dropping the tank again i guess.

lol, this same thing happend to me this past march with my 97 jimmy, it shows the right amount from about 3/4 to full, and occasionally says its empty when it's not.
