Default Fuel problem

I've got s 99 Blazer LT. This weekend it died on me, kind of sputtered to a halt. Compression test was good, thank god. Fuel filter replaced. I can hear the fuel pump prime, and continue to run while i crank the engine. I tested the pressure in the fuel line. The book says i should have 50-60 psi. I have only about 30 psi. Is this a clear sign of a bad fuel pump, and if so, why are my fuel pumps going bad because i've already replaced it twice. If it's not the fuel pump, what is it? Any sugestions?

Yea, I believe you need at least 50 psi to start/run. I've heard discussions where if you let the tank get below 1/4 tank or run out of gas completely it can lead to premature failure. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I've never let those circumstances happen to me and my fuel pump is still going strong.

You need 58-60psi to start so you definitely have a problem. Does the fuel pressure bleed off to zero once the pump shuts off or does it hold constant at 30psi?

Pressure held constant at 30 psi. Is this a sign of a bad fuel pump? I would like to be sure before i shell out $260 for a new one. Is there another test i can run to be sure?

I would disconnect the electrical connection to the pump and make sure that it's getting full +12V and has a good ground to make sure that isn't the problem.

But yes, that points to a bad pump.

I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs and wires. The engine still will not start. I'm getting good spark and compression. Any suggestions?

Bought a new distributor cap and rotor, and added another gallon of gas, and POW,fired right up. Really can't imagine that either or both of those things were holding me back, but I'm back in business and that's all that matters.
