Default Fuse Issue

I have a 1997 chevy blazer that keeps blowing fuse #16 which feeds the on-the-floor gear shifter solenoid, backup lights and turn signals. I have disconnected the harness to the solenoid and the fuse still blows. I retaped the trailer wiring harness and this did not help either. Any ideas on how to troublshoot this would help...even a wiring diagram. One more thing, the fuse doesn't always blow immediately. I ran the thing for 4 days before the last fuse blew.

Thanks for your input
Steve

It sounds like you have an intermittent short somewhere. I would start by looking at the tail lights themselves. The sockets can corrode and short out. It can be intermittent, typically being caused by bumps or vibration.

I will definitely take a look. Thanks for the input.

I think the issue I am having is with the turn signal switch. Has anyone ever changed one of these?

Many people have changed out the multifunction switch, but a faulty multifunction switch has rarely resulted in fuses blowing. I am not saying that it could not happen, just that there are other things that happen more typically instead.

Good Point! The trouble I am having beleiving it is a multifunction switch is that when the fuse does hold, the turn signals work fine. The only other items left are the gear shifter solenoid, backup lights and trailer harness. I really need the electrical schematic to see if I can try and isolate the problem. After thinking about it, I agree with you that it is unlikely the switch.
