You can actually gut out the stock intake box just under the filter. Drop a K&N filter in it and achieve the same results.
I used to be a fan of the cold air intakes but they really aren't all that great.

I have yet to do this to my truck since ive been so damn busy but if i were to mess with the intake, that's what i would do. It has worked on every car i have ever owned.
