There is plenty of info on this site and others. There are the parts you need and shops that will do it. As long as you aren't in California, or some other state that doesn't allow engine swaps such this, it is an option. More power and most report better mileage. Find a late 90's 5.7, the front accessories will swap over with no problems. You will need headers, electric fans, and motor mounts at the least. The 4.3 is a 350/5.7 minus two cylinders. The tranny will match up just fine, too. And the engine will cost a lot less than what you were quoted.

Like I was suggesting...problematic. Aint worth it. If I had extra time, money and an extra vehicle to work with while this project would evolve I would probably do it. I got none of those. And I'm jealous of those that do. But thanks for the nice idea anyway.

Off topic....I stumbled across a GM service program and with a little fiddling was able to get it to run. I hope that this is ok to post here. Does anyone use something like this? Is it worthwhile?

It seems to me you could easily find that engine in a junk yard. Find a car that has a 4.3 and has been totaled in a wreck. Even if it's been sitting out in the rain for years the engine should be good.

If I had to replace my engine, I'd seriously consider a swap to a 350/5.7.

Yeah that does sound sweet. Unfortunately i dont have the luxury of a home shop or extra vehicle/knowhow to do such a thing. So....its gonna be all stock. Preserve the warranty.

If I didn't live in California when I had to replace my engine, I'm pretty sure I would have done the same. But I was living there, so I put in a new 4.3 instead. Net time, though...
