Hello I am new to the forum and not just a dumb blonde but a totally confused dumb blonde - I would like feedback on whether anyone else has had differing opinions as to whether the hand brake shoe/s on a Chevy Blazer 1999 4.3 Auto can be relined. My garage has already done the drivers side but when I enquired about the relining a company in Sheffield said they could not be relined so I am totally confused as to why one garage (an MOT testing station who failed the car) would get them done but a different company says they cannot be done and could damage the transmission. Any helpful comments would be appreciated

I don't see why they couldn't be relined by a competent company knowledgeable in such things. They just need to make sure that the lining thickness is not too much and rivet it on.
You could get a new parking brake band, but they are $$$ and being in S.Wales, they may not be all that available. I don't know.
I do not see how a parking brake shoe could screw up the transmission.

Thank you for the info my gut feeling said the same if the trans housing was so flimsey a stone hitting it would damage it - here in South Wales (as in Wales UK) there is a lack of understanding of American cars and a great deal of mistrust of them being a Canadian I love big cars and over here my Chevy is one of the largest, I look forward to reading with interest the various threads of the forum

Hi. I'm in the UK and also have a 1999. Blazer 4.3 auto. I've replaced my parking brake shoes (and am still having problems with the adjustment of the new ones - but that's another story !) and I know that the old shoes had something like "do not re-line" stamped on them. I don't know why this should be the case, unless the flexing of the metal of the shoe during use weakens it over time (?) Or maybe GM just wants people to buy new ones? If you could get them relined fairly cheaply then it would be worth considering going down that route, as new ones are bloody expensive. I think I paid about £70 for a pair, which is ludicrous!. Hope you sort it out. Cheers. Lee

Hi can anyone advise where I can get front bearings for my 1999 Chevy Blazer I have been quoted £119 plus VAt and deliver each which seems very expensive, I belieive they come in one complete unit and cannot be ajusted.
Thank you
