Sure sounds like the ignition switch to me too. Connect a test light from battery negative to the pink wire at the ignition coil. Light should come on, and remain on, with the ignition in the RUN and START positions, no blinking allowed when you go from RUN to START. This will tell if the ignition switch is supplying voltage to the coil. The results will tell which way to go next.

i got an update. truck is having a real hard time starting now. but when boosted starts fine. brand new battery. still same outcome. gonna change the starter out after Xmas maybe starter is taking too much juice?? the 14v oming off an other vehicle seems to be my safe ticket

Distributor cap & rotor? They can cause symptoms like this, (especially aftermarket ones), and not necessarily set a DTC if it acts up during cranking. Pull the coil wire out of the cap, prop up the terminal ~1 cm away from ground and crank it over. Should be a blue, not orange, rythmic spark. If that checks OK, try using AC Delco parts.
