hard starting

Default hard starting

hey guys i have a 98 4dr 4x4 i put in a fuel pump back in jan of 2010 ran great then about a month ago it started to take a while to start 2 days ago i put in a new fuel filter now when it starts it runs a little rough and is getting harder to start but after it runs it smooths out no power loss and then when i start it again hard to start please help thanks

Have you verified that the fuel pressure is within spec and that it does not quickly leak down?

no i haven't going to get a pressure gauge tester today

Let us know what you find. Sometimes, new pumps can expose weaknesses in other areas of the fuel system. In this case, you may have a leaking FPR.

i checked thr fuel pressure regulator and when i shut the truck off the pressure went from 60 to 0 in less then a min i guess this means i need to replace the fuel pressure reg can it be anything else i heard the spider injector can be bad too please help thanks

96+ Fuel System Diagnosis

That should lead you to the defective component. It could be the FPR, but it also could be the check valve in the pump. There is a step in that procedure that will determine whether the check valve is seating or not.

thanks for your help my brother thinks it is getting to much fuel and flooding out he thinks thatbecause i turn the key on and the pressure goes to 60 and holds he thinks it is flooding out can that be possible
