I tried the ziptie solution first. They didn't work as well as I would have liked. Maybe later in the year I'll work on a more permanent and successful solution. For now I'm happy with the lead weight solution.

they sell little wire crimping things. no idea what the proper name is but they are pretty much like fishing weights you just smash them onto the wire, that would probably be more of a permanent fix

HELP!!! Can't get hood OPEN!! :(
Ok, so we all know this is an issue here.... How the hell do you get the hood open if the cable doesn't work?? I'm stuck in my driveway with NO POWER from the battery (probably dirty cables-my fault) and can't get the
dang hood to open....Have tried having someone push down as I pull the cable release to no avail.....
Any tricks to getting this thing open ?
Thanks!

I have more than one GM with a hood release and have found that the latch cam hangs on the release cam tension spring as the hole in the latch cam over time becomes enlarged causing it to bind on the edge of the spring. This is a stamped piece and has a rough edge, take a file and round the edge that strikes the spring and it shouldn't hang up anymore.
