Default How to get that dadgum tilt wheel lever out??

I've been stumped twice on this - with a 1999 Blazer and currently with a 1997 Blazer.

I need to pull the steering column to replace the ig\nition switch - and in order to get the upper and lower shrouds off the column, I need to remove the tilt wheel lever. The FSM shows that it pulls out - but mine doesn't. Is there a secret release, or some other part which must be removed first? I'm stopped until I get a way to remove that tilt wheel lever.

it's a miracle! I finally got so PO'd at that tilt lever that I removed the screws holding the shroud together, which let me get a finger behind the large rectangular part of the lever. I pulled HARD and it finally popped out.

Maybe GM actually knew what they were writing in that part of the FSM.

Welcome!

Glad you got it figured out.

The FSMs are one of the best references you can have and a vast majority of the time, the process spelled out in the FSM is the easiest way to go about that particular repair.

I agree! I've found that Ebay is a pretty darn good place to get the FSM. I have one for every one of the five vehicles we drive on a regular basis. What drives me nuts in the GM manuals is all the cross-referencing between sections. To remove one part, you may have to look through five different sections in two different manuals. Great fun.

I read in the DIY that wolfpak did for the ignition switch, that he uses a small screw driver. I am not quite sure where he used the screw driver to pry... should it just pull out?

Appreciate the help

Yes, it should just pull out. That is what the FSM states and what pilgrim states above.
