Intake gasket replace thread?
#12
Well shoot I already made the bolt hole bigger and was able to get her set to +1-2 degrees retard in the end. Intake gasket is a fair amount of work but its done and so far she is running great!
Cleaned the carbon out of the throttle bore also, wife says it wasn't sticking but it sure moves much easier now.
Thanks again Captain for all your help.

Possum, it works well in the bottom of a bird cage too. Might be kinda rough for Charmin
Blazeme, Spec is zero plus or minus 2 degrees, it should be fine. Just an FYI, throttle needs to be snapped over 2K rpm and back to idle before checking camshaft retard.

Amen,
Several of the blind intake bolt holes in my heads had tons of gunk packed into them, even after the machine shop hot tanked and rebuilt the heads. You can tell this is the case by how far an intake bolt screws into a hole in comparison to other blind intake bolt holes. Apparently during previous repairs person didn't clean out and the bolt packed the stuff into there until it felt really hard even to a screwdriver. Had to work with carb cleaner and a tap. Amazing the amount of material that eventually came out in several runs of the tap.

GM factory shop manual says it must be snapped over 2K to get an accurate reading. Only need to do it once, after that, what you see on the scanner is accurate until you shut the engine off. It must be snapped after each restart.
